Contraception

If you’re sexually active but don’t want to get pregnant, consider contraception. There are many types of contraception, including oral medication, intrauterine devices (IUDs), vaginal rings, and a birth control shot. 

Following an in-office exam and a discussion of your goals, your provider can make a recommendation that aligns with your needs.

Pap smears

A Pap smear is a preventive screening procedure that assesses your risk of cervical cancer. During a Pap smear, your provider gently collects a sample of cells from your cervix using a cotton swab. They send your swab to a laboratory, which analyzes it for the presence of cancerous or precancerous cells.

Breast exams

During a breast exam, your Prime Choice Family Clinic & Urgent Care provider uses their hands and eyes to assess the health of your breasts. If they detect anything unusual, like an abnormal growth or a lump, they can refer you to a specialist for a mammogram.

A mammogram is a special type of X-ray that helps diagnose breast cancer early on when it’s easiest to treat.

What should I bring to a women’s health appointment?

Before your women’s health appointment at Prime Choice Family Clinic & Urgent Care, gather the following items:

• List of the medications, vitamins, and supplements you take
• List of any pain or unusual symptoms you’re experiencing
• Medical and surgical history
• Results from any recent tests
• Contact information for your previous providers

On the day of your visit, wear comfortable, loose clothing and leave excess jewelry at home. Most women’s health appointments take 60 minutes or less. Following the appointment, you can return to work or other routine activities right away.
